The AIDSVote campaign is designed to make sure all candidates for public office know what it takes to end AIDS – because they’ve been educated by people living with HIV/AIDS and AIDS activists in their own communities.
Helping candidates understand the issues – and that it’s possible to actually end AIDS – is valuable and important work. We’ve got three ways to reach out to candidates and help them get with the AIDSVote program:
BIRD-DOGGING
Bird-dogging is the name given to the activist tactic of attending public appearances in order to win new policies from politicians. You and your group can have a big impact through the simple act of bringing people to an event, working together to raise your hands and ask questions that provoke an answer from the target politician.

CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRES
Candidate questionnaires are a powerful tool available to activists and non-profit AIDS organizations. You and your group can play a vital role in educating both candidates and voters about critical HIV/AIDS issues by conducting a candidate questionnaire or survey and publicizing the results.

CANDIDATE MEETINGS
Conversations with candidates and staff can be a great way to make your voice heard and improve candidates’ positions on the issues. You and your group can establish a relationship with the candidates, lay out key demands, and (hopefully!) walk out with some policy commitments.
